Camp Lalmba

Last week was a week of many hellos and goodbyes. Our executive director from the states arrived for a visit. Our co-expats Andrew and Faith were crossing paths with her and leaving for 3 months back in the states to have their second baby. These two occasions gave us a reason to celebrate with a good ole’ work party. Andrew put me and Erin in charge of coming up with some games. Little did he know he was talking to gamemaster #1 and #2. Without knowing whether they would translate well cross-culturally, we introduced four new games to the eager Ethiopian staff members. They competed in an under-over race with soccer balls, the human knot (which somehow fell apart, uncharacteristically for a knot), and dizzy bats, which were all a riot to watch. But I think the fan favorite was the water balloon toss. After the games, we drank and ate, and even danced! Then, a big competitive volleyball match. My kind of party!
