When You're Having a Bad Day...

When I’m having a bad day, I sometimes try to cheer myself up by thinking about other more unfortunate circumstances or dilemmas. I’m sure many of you do the same. So, I thought I’d pass one of those circumstances on to you to reflect on when one of those stressful moments is upon you.

A 1 year-old boy presented to our clinic the other day with a rash on the back of his head. He had a severe skin infection with two decent-sized holes present. The nurse Solomon showed me the patient and already had the diagnosis. He brought the young child into the procedure room and proceeded to probe into the openings. And he pulled out…a maggot. A big maggot. It takes a lot to gross me out these days, but that did it. Solomon continued to probe the wound. In the end, he retrieved nineteen maggots.

So next time you’re having a bad day, just think “at least I don’t have nineteen maggots in my head."
